Betelgeuse
14”x14” oil on canvas
$500
In 2019 I created a small series of paintings of stars and solar flares. This was partly in an effort to branch out from my initial steps into creating space-related art with my MarsScapes, and was definitely out of my comfort zone. But it was a fun change. All three 14"x14" paintings were created in oil on canvas with palette knife, and are named after bright stars in our sky, Betelgeuse (red), Capella (yellow), and Spica (blue).
Betelgeuse is a red supergiant star found in the beloved constellation Orion. Normally variable in brightness, Betelgeuse dimmed dramatically in 2019, and has since returned to normal brightness.
